Uzbekistan Approves Rules for Local Businesses to Participate in International Commodity Futures Trading
For the first time in Uzbekistan, a procedure has been approved governing the participation of local businesses in futures trading on international commodity derivatives exchanges.
The Resolution of the Competition Development and Consumer Protection Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, entitled “On Approval of the Regulation on Ensuring Oversight of Domestic Business Entities’ Participation in Trading on International Commodity Derivatives Exchanges and Protecting Their Interests,” was adopted as part of the implementation of Resolution No. 82 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 27 February 2026. The document was registered by the Ministry of Justice on 23 October 2026 under No. 3961.
This procedure establishes a legal framework for local businesses to participate in international derivatives markets and effectively manage financial risks associated with commodity price volatility.
Under the Regulation, businesses will be able to trade futures contracts based on copper, wheat, cotton, oil, gold, and other commodities on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), London Metal Exchange (LME), and other international exchanges through UZEX Global LLC, an international exchange intermediary operating under the Uzbekistan Republican Commodity Exchange.
The document sets out the conditions for participation in trading, the obligations of the international exchange intermediary, and government oversight mechanisms. It also establishes requirements for holding client funds in separate accounts and providing transparent information about the services offered.
Participation in trading is voluntary, and businesses participate in their own names and at their own expense. Deposits and withdrawals for futures trading in the national currency, as well as currency conversion, are carried out in accordance with the established procedures.
The adoption of this procedure will support the introduction of modern exchange mechanisms in Uzbekistan, provide local businesses with tools to manage financial risks associated with price volatility, strengthen the resilience and competitiveness of enterprises, develop the national exchange infrastructure, and deepen Uzbekistan’s integration into the global economy.
